Christmas is around the corner! As we know, there will be a TON of Catholics (and non-Catholics) who only come to Mass once or twice a year - affectionately known as CEO’s ("Christmas & Easter Only"). Most of them go to Mass, have a pleasant experience, don’t meet anyone new, don’t get invited to be involved (and don’t get offered concrete ways of being involved), return to their lives basically in the same way they were before, and we then don’t see them again until the following Easter or Christmas - if that!
This Christmas, we are going to do something different!
After each Christmas Mass (Christmas Eve & Christmas Day), there will be a social & involvement fair in the gym:
Think "Happy Hour," not "Dinner"
Folks will come and spend 30-60 minutes socializing, meeting a few people, learning about ways to get involved, and receive a Christmas present (TBD) from the parish before heading home to celebrate Christmas with their families
Christmas decorations and background music
Christmas trees with wrapped presents for kids
Santa Claus and a photo booth for kids/families to take pictures with Santa
Light refreshments (alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks; finger foods)
Tables around the perimeter for different organizations, outreaches, and prayer groups
Each group prepare their own table
Prepare a flyer to hand out
Sign up sheet
Have 1-2 people at each table. Be courteous and available, but not pushy
A few simple games for the kids
E.g. ring toss
No tables for people to sit. The point is for people to walk around and socialize!
Tall "bar tables" (where 3-4 people can gather around it for a short time) would be good
We'll also want to advertise it really well ahead of time:
Call your own family and friends and invite them to come with you
Post on announcement boards around town
Post on Caldwell Facebook groups
Take out an ad in the Caldwell newspaper
Social Media
Lastly, it will be nice to have a "program/worship aid" for those Masses:
Something that can be handed out at the entrance
Mass readings, prayer, and "etiquette"
Lyrics to the Christmas hymns?
Invitation to go to the social
Regular Mass & Confession time
Extra Confession slots in the days after Christmas?
QR code to sign up for the Flocknotes
Info on a free trial subscription of Hallow? (TBD)
So, this is going to be a massive undertaking and we are going to need lots of help!
